Epic Games 2FA email not sending? What to check, in order

Epic says it sent your 2FA code, but the inbox is empty. Here is what actually blocks Epic Games 2FA emails, and the fix for each one, from Epic's own help pages.

An empty email inbox next to an Epic Games sign in screen waiting for a two-factor code

Epic Games says it is sending your 2FA code to your email. You open the inbox. Nothing. You hit resend. Still nothing. When the Epic Games 2FA email is not sending, it almost never means Epic is broken. Usually the code is going somewhere else, sitting in a folder you did not check, or being blocked before it reaches you. Each of those has a simple fix, and they are worth checking in a specific order.

Everything below comes from Epic Games Support's own help pages. No bypass tricks, no third party "code senders". Those do not exist, and any site offering one is after your account.

First, make sure the code is supposed to go to email

This is the one people skip, and it is the most common reason for an empty inbox. Epic Support says that if your account uses an authenticator app or SMS as its 2FA method, the code goes there, not to your email. You can wait at your inbox all day and it will never show up.

  • If you set up an authenticator app at some point, open it and look for an Epic Games entry. The code is already there, changing every few seconds.
  • If you added a phone number for 2FA, check your text messages.
  • If you genuinely want the code by email instead, choose "Try another way" on the 2FA prompt and pick Email Verification. Epic lists this option for exactly this situation.

Not sure which method you turned on years ago? That is very normal, and it is the first thing worth writing down once you are back in.

Signing in on a console? The code may not be from Epic

If the code prompt shows up when you launch Fortnite on a PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch, check who is actually asking. Epic Support says that when you do not get the verification code while trying to access Fortnite on a console, it likely means your console platform is requesting the code, not Epic Games.

In that case the code goes to the email, phone or authentication method on your console account, which might be a completely different inbox from your Epic one. If that still does not work, Epic says to contact the console platform's support team, because Epic cannot send or resend a code it did not generate.

Give it a few minutes, then check every folder

Epic Support says to allow a few minutes for the code to reach your inbox, and that sending errors usually resolve within a few minutes. So before you hit resend five times, work through this list:

  1. Wait a few minutes, then refresh your inbox. Some email apps only check for new mail every so often.
  2. Open your spam or junk folder. Epic names this as a likely place for 2FA codes to land.
  3. Check the Promotions folder or any other tab your email app sorts mail into. Epic's help pages call out Promotions and custom filters as common reasons its emails go missing.
  4. Search your whole mailbox for "Epic Games", so you also catch anything a filter quietly moved into a folder.
  5. If you requested several codes, use the newest one. Epic's sign in help says to wait about 30 seconds, click Resend code, and use the most recent code you get.

Before you request another code, search your mailbox for "Epic Games". It takes five seconds and finds the code more often than any other fix on this list.

Let Epic's emails through your filters

If Epic's mail keeps vanishing, your email provider may be blocking it. Maybe you marked an Epic email as spam once, or a filter rule catches it. Epic's help pages list the sender domains it uses for account and 2FA emails, and recommends adding them to your safe senders or allowed list:

  • support.epicgames.com
  • acct.epicgames.com
  • accts.epicgames.com

If you ever blocked one of those domains or flagged it as spam, Epic says to unblock or unmark it in your email provider's settings. Then request a fresh code. If you have done all of that and Epic emails still never arrive, Epic suggests contacting your email provider to confirm it is not blocking the domain.

Check the email address itself

Sometimes the email is being sent perfectly. Just not to you. Epic Support lists a few problems with the address on the account that stop its emails from arriving:

  • A typo in the address or the domain. Epic's own example is @gmil.com instead of @gmail.com. One missing letter and every code goes to an inbox that does not exist.
  • A full mailbox. Epic notes that if your email storage is too full, new messages may not be received. Clear some space and try again.
  • A role based address like webmaster@ or postmaster@. Epic advises against using those for your account.
  • An old address you forgot about. If you made the account years ago, the codes may be going to an inbox from school or a previous job.

If you can still sign in another way (for example through a linked console or Google account), check the email on your Epic account settings page and fix any typo there. If the address is wrong and you cannot get in at all, that is a job for Epic Support, covered below.

Getting codes you did not ask for? Different problem

The opposite situation is worth a quick mention, because it scares people. If Epic 2FA emails land in your inbox when you are not signing in, Epic Support says this likely means someone knows your Epic Games password and is trying to access your account. Their sign in attempt triggered the code. 2FA is doing its job.

  1. Do not enter or share that code anywhere.
  2. Reset your Epic Games password right away, as Epic recommends. Use a new password you have never used anywhere else. Our password generator makes one in your browser.
  3. Secure the email account too. Epic calls your email the key to your Epic Games account, so change that password and turn on 2FA there.
  4. If you think someone already changed your details, follow our guide on how to recover a hacked Epic Games account.

Still no code after 10 minutes

Epic Support says that if you still do not receive the code after 10 minutes, click Contact Us and submit a support ticket. The same goes if you no longer have access to the email on your account at all.

Before you open a ticket, try the other doors on the 2FA prompt. Choose "Try another way" and pick a backup code if you saved them when you set up an authenticator app. If you linked a console or social account (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Google and others), Epic suggests trying to sign in with that. And if the code does arrive but Epic rejects it, or you keep bouncing back to the sign in page, that is a separate issue. Our post on the Epic Games 2FA loop walks through those fixes.

Stop this from happening next time

Almost every missing code comes down to a detail nobody wrote down: which inbox is on the account, which 2FA method is turned on, or where the backup codes went. Once you are back in, spend five minutes on this:

  1. Write down the exact email on your Epic account, spelled the way Epic has it.
  2. Add the three Epic sender domains to your safe senders now, before you need a code.
  3. Note which 2FA method is on (authenticator app, SMS or email) and, for an app, which phone it lives on.
  4. Epic recommends having at least two authentication methods enabled. Add a second one so a missing email is never the only way in.
  5. Save your backup codes somewhere you can reach without your phone.
  6. Write down which console and social accounts are linked to Epic.

That is a lot of small facts for one account, and most players have several. This is what LoginScout is for. Each account gets one card with the login email, password, recovery notes and 2FA details together, encrypted on your device. It works as a gaming password manager, and if you want to see how authenticator codes are generated, try our free 2FA code generator.

The short version

If your Epic Games 2FA email is not sending, check that your 2FA method is actually email, and that a console is not the one asking. Wait a few minutes, check spam and Promotions, search for "Epic Games", and allow Epic's sender domains. Then check the address on the account for typos or a full mailbox. Still nothing after 10 minutes? Try a backup code or a linked account, then contact Epic Support. And write it all down so next time is boring. You can create a free vault for up to five accounts in about a minute.

Questions people ask

Why is Epic Games not sending my 2FA code to my email?
The most common reason is that your account uses an authenticator app or SMS, so the code goes there instead of your email. Otherwise, Epic Support says to wait a few minutes, check spam, and allow its sender domains in your email settings.
How long does the Epic Games 2FA email take to arrive?
Epic says to allow a few minutes, since sending errors usually resolve within a few minutes. If you still have no code after 10 minutes, Epic recommends submitting a support ticket through Contact Us.
What email address does Epic Games send 2FA codes from?
Epic's help pages list support.epicgames.com, acct.epicgames.com and accts.epicgames.com as its sender domains. Add them to your safe senders and unblock them if you ever flagged them as spam.
Why do I not get a verification code when I launch Fortnite on my console?
Epic Support says this likely means your console platform is requesting the code, not Epic Games. The code goes to the email or method on your PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo account, and that platform's support team is who can help.
Why am I getting Epic Games 2FA emails when I am not logging in?
Epic says this likely means someone knows your password and is trying to sign in. Do not use the code, reset your Epic password right away, and secure your email account too.
