Glossary
Words we actually use
One page of definitions so we do not ship a thin URL for every synonym.
- Gaming alt
- A second (or third) game or launcher identity you own — a Steam, Epic, or Roblox user besides your main. Each alt should have its own vault card with login, recovery, and MFA. Not someone else’s account.
- Steam Guard backup
- The spare codes or recovery options Steam gives you when you turn on Steam Guard. Store them next to the Steam login. Losing the authenticator without backups is how an alt gets locked out.
- Launcher recovery email
- The inbox a store (Steam, Epic, Xbox, PlayStation, Roblox) will use to reset a password or send a Guard code. If you used temp mail for signup, that inbox is the recovery email until you change it.
- Account library
- LoginScout’s list of logins you saved: platform, credentials, status, notes, and related context on one card per account.
- Temporary email
- A disposable inbox for verification messages so a new site does not have to learn your real address. LoginScout Premium can issue a vault-tied address you keep and reuse — permanent temp mail versus a public 10-minute dump. Free stores a recovery email you type; it does not issue the mailbox.
- Hide my email
- An alias that typically forwards into your real inbox (Proton Pass documents this on proton.me/pass). It is not the same as a LoginScout-issued disposable mailbox, which is Premium and sits in the vault next to the login.
- Public temp-mail
- A shared disposable inbox on a site such as Guerrilla Mail or Temp-Mail.org. Anyone with the address can often read it, and the mailbox is short-lived. LoginScout Premium issues a private vault-tied inbox instead; Free can still store whichever address you used.
- Public receive-SMS
- A shared disposable phone inbox on a site such as SMS24, Quackr, or Receive-SMSS. Anyone who opens the same number can often read the code. LoginScout Premium can order a private 5sim burner line in the vault instead; Free can still store whichever number you used.
- Burner number
- A short-lived phone line used to receive one SMS verification code. LoginScout buys these through 5sim for Premium vaults, with a monthly quota. Not a personal phone plan.
- TOTP / authenticator code
- A 6-digit code that rotates from a shared secret (often an otpauth:// URI). LoginScout can store those secrets next to the login. Recovery codes from the original site are still the spare key.
- PIN vault
- A LoginScout vault unlocked with a username and PIN. Contents are encrypted in the browser. The PIN does not leave the browser, and support cannot reset it.
- Google convenience mode
- Optional Google sign-in where LoginScout stores a vault key and releases it only to your authenticated Google session on this site. It is not zero-knowledge. See Privacy and Security.
- Encrypted cloud sync
- Premium option that stores the encrypted vault blob so you can use another device. It is not an unlocked password list in the cloud.
- Account generator
- In search, this often means a site that spits out stolen logins. LoginScout’s account-generator page is a signup kit: password storage, optional Premium temp mail, optional SMS — you still create the account on the real platform.
- LoginScout vs “login scout”
- LoginScout is one word and a software product. “Login scout” as two words is usually Scouts Canada, Skout, or Help Scout. Search engines often rewrite the brand.
