Roblox username rules

  • Between 3 and 20 characters.
  • Letters (A–Z) and numbers (0–9) only, plus one underscore at most.
  • The underscore cannot be the first or last character.
  • Usernames are not case-sensitive: CozyBunny and cozybunny are the same name.
  • Names must follow Roblox’s Community Standards, and filtered words are blocked.

Username vs display name

Your username is your unique @handle and the name you sign in with. Changing it costs 1,000 Robux. Your display name is what most players see in experiences. It does not have to be unique and you can change it for free once every 7 days.

So spend your effort on the username. Pick something you will still like in a year, and use the display name for seasonal jokes.

Short Roblox usernames (4–6 letters)

Short names are the most wanted and the most taken. Almost every real 3- and 4-letter word is gone. Turn on Short names to get pronounceable made-up words like the ones rare-name hunters look for; your odds of finding a free one are much better than with dictionary words.

Adding a single underscore or number to a short name is another way to get close to the name you want.

Keep the Roblox account behind the name safe

Nobody can give you free Robux for your password. Anyone who asks, in a game, a DM, or a “generator” site, is trying to take the account. Turn on 2-Step Verification, use a password you do not use anywhere else, and add an email you can still open.

Changing your @username costs 1,000 Robux each time. Your display name is separate: you can change it for free once every 7 days. Pick a username you like before you spend the Robux.
Can a Roblox username have two underscores or a space?
No. Roblox usernames allow letters, numbers, and at most one underscore, which cannot be the first or last character. Spaces are not allowed.
How do I find a short Roblox username that is not taken?
Turn on Short names. Real 4- and 5-letter words were claimed years ago, so the generator builds made-up words that are much more likely to be free. Try them in the Roblox sign-up form or the username change screen.
Are these Roblox usernames available?
