Minecraft username generator
Describe a vibe for AI Java Edition names, or grab instant ones. Every name is 3–16 letters, numbers, and underscores. Bedrock uses a Microsoft gamertag instead — that is a different generator.

Minecraft name rules
- 3–16 characters
- Letters, numbers, and underscores
Quick ideas are made in your browser from word lists and each platform’s rules. We cannot see whether a name is taken.
Minecraft Java username rules
- 3 to 16 characters.
- Letters (A–Z), numbers, and underscores only. No spaces or periods.
- Names are unique on Java Edition.
- You change the name from your Microsoft account on minecraft.net, not inside a world.
Java name vs Bedrock gamertag
Java Edition is the profile name this generator follows: 3–16 characters, letters, numbers, underscore. That is what servers, Realms (Java), and most PC players mean by “Minecraft username.”
Bedrock Edition (Windows, consoles, mobile) signs in with a Microsoft account and shows an Xbox gamertag. Those names follow Xbox rules (up to 12 characters, can include spaces). Use the Xbox gamertag generator for Bedrock, not this page.
Playing both? You can pick a Java name that also fits Xbox (12 characters or fewer, starts with a letter, no extra underscores) if you want one public name. The accounts are still separate.
Names that work on a server list
- Easy to type in chat. Underscores are fine; a pile of them is not.
- Leave out your real name and birth year. Anvils and signs are public.
- If you also stream or play Discord, try the same idea in the Discord username generator before you lock it in.
Protect the Microsoft account behind the name
A Java username hangs off a Microsoft account that also holds Minecraft purchases, Realms, and often Xbox. Use a unique password, turn on two-step verification, and keep recovery codes with the login.
New here? See how to make a Minecraft account. Locked out? Start with how to recover a hacked Minecraft account. Store the Microsoft login, Java name, and backup codes in a gaming password manager.
Minecraft username questions
- Is a Minecraft Java username the same as a Bedrock gamertag?
- No. Java Edition uses a 3–16 character profile name (letters, numbers, underscore). Bedrock uses your Microsoft / Xbox gamertag, which has different rules. This page generates Java names. For Bedrock, use the Xbox gamertag generator.
- How long can a Minecraft username be?
- Java profile names must be 3 to 16 characters. Every idea on this page fits that limit.
- How do I change my Minecraft username?
- Sign in at minecraft.net with the Microsoft account that owns Java Edition and open your profile. Minecraft lets you change a Java name, with a cooldown between changes — confirm the current wait on that page. Bedrock names change with your Xbox gamertag.
- Are these Minecraft usernames available?
- We cannot see Mojang’s list of taken names. Every idea fits Java’s 3–16 character rules; Minecraft tells you if one is taken when you save it. Turn on Add numbers or tap More names.
- Is there an AI Minecraft username generator?
- This is one. Describe a vibe, like “survival hermit” or “redstone goblin”, and press Generate with AI. Names longer than 16 characters or with spaces never show up. It is free and does not ask for your Minecraft login.
