GTA 6 release date, pre-load, editions and account prep: only what Rockstar has confirmed

Rockstar’s current date is Thursday, November 19, 2026, after earlier delays. The pre-order announcement and the support articles all use that date, and so does the official site at rockstargames.com/VI.

Pre-load opens at local midnight on November 12, 2026. That covers digital pre-orders on PlayStation and Xbox, and physical copies whose code you redeem before launch. Rockstar has not published an unlock time for launch day on its support pages, so treat any exact hour you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until Rockstar or the platform stores post it.

The Standard Edition is the game. The Ultimate Edition adds the Ultimate Edition Upgrade, which Rockstar says is spread through Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items unlocked in each chapter.

You do not have to choose now. Standard owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately at any time from the PlayStation or Microsoft store, and physical owners can do it once their download code is redeemed. There is no physical Ultimate Edition.

Every pre-order or purchase before November 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack: the ’55 Vapid Stanier sedan and garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. Physical copies include the pack on the same code as the game.

Digital copies bought before November 20 also come with one month of GTA+, which you redeem from your platform’s store, not from Rockstar. On PlayStation, the offer must be redeemed by March 31, 2027. On Xbox, it must be redeemed within 180 days of your purchase, from Offers & Credits in the Microsoft Store.

After the free month, GTA+ renews monthly at the regular price until you cancel. It is one redemption per platform account, and refunding and pre-ordering again does not give you a second month.

The physical version is a box with a download code inside. Rockstar says there is no disc. Retailers are expected to ship or hand them out from November 12, and you can redeem the code as soon as you have it so the pre-load starts on time.

The code works by region. It has to match the region of the PlayStation or Xbox account you redeem it on. Rockstar lists the PlayStation regional groups (for example, Canada and the United States share one group, and the United Kingdom has its own), while Xbox codes are not region-locked. PlayStation codes sold in Japan expire 170 days after the November 19 launch date because of local rules.

Purchase problems go to whoever sold you the game: PlayStation or Xbox support for store purchases, the retailer for everything else, and Xsolla for physical pre-orders from the Rockstar Store, including cancellations.

Rockstar’s platforms page, last updated August 18, 2026, lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. There is no announced PC version and no PC date. If a PC release is announced, it will be on rockstargames.com/VI and the Newswire first, and this page will change the same day.

Rockstar describes Grand Theft Auto VI as “a single player experience”. Rockstar has not announced an online mode or a date for one on the pages we checked, so we are not repeating any of the predictions floating around.

Accounts are the other open question. None of the GTA 6 support articles we checked say you need a Rockstar Games account to play. What they do make clear is that the purchase, pre-load, region and GTA+ month all run through your PlayStation or Xbox account. If you already have a Rockstar account from GTA V or Red Dead, it is still worth securing now.

The biggest game launch in years brings the biggest wave of fake offers. They all want one of two things: your account login or your card.

One card in your vault saves you a search through old emails if a code fails, a bonus is missing or the console account gets taken.
