Roblox account security: 2-Step Verification, recovery codes, parent accounts and Robux scams

Everything you own on Roblox, from your Robux balance to the Limiteds you traded up for, sits behind one username and password. Roblox’s help center has solid tools to protect it, spread across a lot of separate articles. This page pulls them together in the order a player, or a parent, should set them up.

Set up Roblox security in the right order

  1. Step 1

Verify an email that belongs to you

Roblox will not turn on 2-Step Verification without a verified email, and that inbox is where password resets land. Use your own address or a parent’s; Roblox warns that someone else’s email on your account gets your reset link.

  2. Step 2

Switch on the authenticator app method

Open Settings, go to the Security tab, turn on the toggle for the authenticator app and follow the on-screen setup. Roblox names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo and Twilio Authy. From then on, password and email-code logins also ask for the app’s code.

  3. Step 3

Generate recovery codes and keep them off your phone

In the same tab, click Generate under recovery codes and enter your password. Roblox shows the codes one time only, so store them away from the phone that runs your authenticator.

  4. Step 4

Add a second way to prove it’s you

Add a phone number in Account Info if you are 13 or older, or a passkey on a device you own. If the authenticator goes missing, Roblox wants two different verification methods before it lets you back in.

  5. Step 5

Log out of shared and school computers

Anyone who sits down at a computer where you stayed logged in has your account. Log out when you play on a device that is not yours, and never type your login into a form inside an experience.

  6. Step 6

Write down what support will ask for

If you ever lose the account, Roblox asks for the first email added to it or the billing email from its very first payment. Note both now, while you can still look them up.

What these settings protect on Roblox

A stolen password stops being enough

Someone who phished your password still needs a code. If a second-device approval prompt appears when you were not logging in, Roblox says to deny it and change your password.

Higher Robux transfer limits

Accounts in good standing with 2SV on can send ten times more Robux a day. Every transfer is final, so that room only makes sense on an account nobody else can get into.

Time to react to a takeover

Roblox can hold sensitive actions, like moving Robux, for several hours when they come from an unfamiliar session, and emails you. Answering “No, it’s not me” logs that session out.

Spending a parent can see

A linked parent account can view a child’s Robux balance, set a monthly spending limit and get spending notifications by email. Parent mode covers most settings, but not those real-time alerts.

Which Roblox 2-Step Verification method to use

Roblox offers an authenticator app, email, and security keys. Its help page says you use one method at a time, with one exception it spells out: security keys need the authenticator app switched on too, as a way in if the key goes missing. Roblox recommends the authenticator app, and so do we, because the code lives on your phone instead of an inbox that can be phished. Email codes expire after 15 minutes.

Passkeys work differently. A passkey replaces the password, and Roblox skips the 2SV challenge when you use one, because it already proves you hold the device. Great on your own phone, risky on a family tablet, since anyone who can unlock the device can get into the account.

Enhanced Protection is the strict setting. It accepts only passkeys or hardware security keys for 2SV. To turn it on you need at least one passkey, a verified email, and either a verified phone number or backup codes. It makes the most sense on accounts holding valuable items.

Lost your phone? Roblox’s two-method recovery rule

This is the part most players skip. If 2-Step Verification is on and you lose your main method, Roblox needs two different verification methods in your account details before it lets you back in. Without enough backup methods, its help page says, you may be unable to regain access.

Three options count: a phone number in Account Info (13 and over), a passkey in Account Info (any age), and backup codes from the Security tab (any age). Adding one takes a couple of minutes now. After you are locked out, it is too late.

When Roblox asks you to approve a login from a second device, you can pick another way in: Email Me a Code if the account has a verified email, or a saved backup code. If neither works, contact Customer Support. Lost the codes but still logged in? Generate a fresh set, which also cancels any copy someone else has.

Getting back in with no email or phone on the account

Roblox’s password reset sends a link to your email or a 6-digit code to your phone. If the account has neither, Roblox says plainly that the reset feature cannot help. Your route is the support form at roblox.com/support, describing the login problem in detail. Every player has to verify ownership before Roblox resets anything.

Two details carry the most weight: the first email address ever added to the account, and the billing email from its very first payment. They still count if a thief has changed the email since. If the account never had either, Roblox says it can explore other ways to verify you, and that no detail promises recovery.

If the account was taken rather than forgotten, our recovery guide covers the full process, and the Robux side has its own post.

Parent accounts, Parent mode, and the old account PIN

A linked parent account is the parent’s own Roblox account, connected from the child’s Settings, Parental Controls, Add parent. The parent must pass an age check showing they are 18 or older, by government ID, credit card or facial age estimate. Once linked, you manage settings from your own device and get emails about screen time, friends and spending.

Parent mode needs no parent account. Your child taps Ask in Person and hands you the device, you verify you are an adult, and you create a 6-digit PIN for approving later requests. Roblox says it is still rolling out, so you may not see it yet.

Control shifts as the child grows. From 13, they manage their own screen time limits and blocking, and spending limits stop applying. From 16, a linked parent only manages notifications, spending notifications and activity updates.

Older guides tell parents to lock settings with an account PIN. Roblox’s current help center no longer has an article on that PIN, so do not plan around it. The PIN it documents today is the Parent mode one.

Robux and Limited scams Roblox warns about

Roblox’s position is short: any offer of free Robux, subscriptions or valuable items is a scam, whether it comes from a player, a video, a website or a game. Making false purchase claims to get free Robux breaks the rules too, and can get the account deleted.

  • Deals outside Trade. Roblox says the only safe ways to swap items or Robux are the Trade feature and the Sell features. Lending your account, “you go first” deals and handing items to someone to sell for you are not, and Roblox cannot reverse them.
  • Trades you regret. Roblox will not reverse, refund or dispute a completed trade. Check every Limited and Limited U on both sides, and set the Trade Quality Filter (Privacy & content restrictions, Trading & inventory) to hide one-sided offers.
  • “Send Robux to verify your account”. Robux transfers cannot be cancelled, and Roblox says it will never ask you to send Robux to another user to verify your account, or for any other reason.
  • Quick Login codes from strangers. Quick Login lets a signed-in device approve a new one with a one-time code. Only enter codes you requested. Entering someone else’s code gives their device full access to your account.
  • Login boxes inside games, and browser extensions. Only type your login on roblox.com or the official apps. Roblox makes no browser extensions, and after a hack it tells players to remove the ones they have.

What to keep on your Roblox vault card

A LoginScout card keeps the details Roblox support asks for, and the codes you need on a new device, in one place, encrypted on your device before it syncs.

  • Your username, the email on the account, and whether a phone number is verified.
  • Which 2SV method is on, and which authenticator app holds it.
  • The recovery codes from your last Generate. Replace the whole list whenever you make a new set.
  • The first email ever used on the account and the billing email from its first payment.
  • For a child’s account: whether a parent account is linked, and which parent email it uses.
  • Your most valuable Limiteds, with serial numbers for any Limited U, so you can say exactly what went missing.

Questions people ask

How do I turn on 2-Step Verification on Roblox?

Verify an email on the account first. Then open Settings, go to the Security tab, turn on the toggle for the method you want and follow the on-screen steps. Roblox recommends the authenticator app.

Where do I find my Roblox backup codes?

Roblox calls them recovery codes. Go to Settings, Security, click Generate under recovery codes and enter your password. They are shown once, each one works once, and a new set switches the old set off.

Why didn’t Roblox ask for my 2SV code when I used a passkey?

A passkey login skips the 2-Step Verification challenge because it already proves you have your device. Logging in any other way still gets the usual 2SV check.

Will Roblox give back stolen Robux or Limiteds?

Maybe, but Roblox does not guarantee it. In very limited cases it may restore lost inventory or its approximate value, and only if you contact it within 30 days of the compromise. Deals made outside the official trade and selling features cannot be reversed.

Can I recover my Roblox account without an email or phone number?

Not with the password reset. Contact Customer Support through roblox.com/support. The first email added to the account, or the billing email from its first payment, helps prove it is yours.

Does Roblox still have an account PIN?

Roblox’s current help center no longer documents the old settings PIN. The PIN it does document is the 6-digit code a parent creates in Parent mode to approve a child’s requests.

Can LoginScout recover a hacked Roblox account?

No. Only Roblox Support can restore a Roblox account or its items. LoginScout keeps your recovery codes, first email and purchase details in one encrypted place, so they are ready when you fill in the support form.
